The Purpose of this Blog...

In my own opinion, everyone in the world1 has some varying form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder2. Mine in this case happens to be efficiency. When something is not efficient, or a waste of time, it really gets to me. Lately, one of these inefficiencies that has really been bothering me has been the retention of information, whether that be from reading, listening to a lecture, watching a demonstration, etc.

Now, as any person who want to solve a problem would do, I researched more into ways that would help increase my retention of information. The first thing I came across was "Speed Reading".3 Most of the techniques of speed reading that I came across called for the elimination of "Sub-Vocalization", and for those of you who do not know what that is, it is the voice you hear inside your head when you read this or any text to yourself. From the get-go, this very concept seemed pretty much impossible, simply due to the fact that I have never known reading for something other than the internal vocalization (or sub-vocalization if you want to get technical) of the words I see in a text.

Coming to this... obstacle... I decided to look elsewhere for a solution to my efficiency problem, when i came upon the blog titled: "Psychotactics.com". There, I read an article that stated that the best way of retaining information (90% of the piece of information to be exact) was to teach it to someone else. Now, since I am not a certified teacher, and have no interest in pursuing a career in teaching, I have resorted to blogging as my avenue of "teaching".

To state the story stated above simply, I am going to be blogging about random topics, via this blog, in hopes of better understanding and better retaining the information I obtain through my studies.

1"everyone in the world" being everyone who I have been able to witness in my society, seeing as how I haven't met/observed people in every country of the world.

2Also known as OCD. Think of the TV show "Monk". Mine is slightly elevated due to my prescribed use of Vyvanse, who's major symptom includes an elevated anxiety level.

3The first thing I thought of when I came across speed reading was a teacher who used to teach at my school. She was widely known throughout the school for her ability read through thick books in a matter of hours. Unfortunately for her, She was even more widely known for her fetish of cows and her fear of plants (even though she had them all throughout her room).
